Which is the Best Boiler Brand?

Which is the Best Boiler Brand?

Posted on January 11, 2022

New Year, new boiler? But which boiler brand is the best? Which boiler should you get?

If you’re in the market for a new boiler then these are probably some of the questions you are asking right now.

We get asked these all the time – Our customers are always seeking the answer to which boiler is best for their home.

So we thought it was only fair to share our expertise when it comes to new boilers.

Even if you’re not super clued-up on boiler brands, you’ve probably heard of the big household names like Worcester Bosch, Vaillant, Viessman and Baxi.

But are they the only ones you should be looking at? And how do you choose? Let’s take a look.

What factors should you consider when buying a new boiler?

Well firstly, there are the obvious things like reliability, lifespan longevity and value for money. They’re kind of a given, even if you’re not an expert on boilers.

What you’ll tend to find, is that those big household names tend to perform the best on these top 3 factors.

You should also consider the warranty period. It’s important when buying a boiler that you know that should anything go wrong, the warranty has you covered.

Again, this is where the bigger brand names excel. The lesser-known brands could well lead you into some hot water (or lack of it).

Here are some other things to think about when you’re looking for a new boiler:

  • Reviews – Always read other customer reviews before you buy! You would do it for other devices and appliances – A boiler is no different. Have a look through TrustPilot reviews or similar and see what a particular brands reputation is like.
  • Awards – Does the brand have any awards or accolades to its name? Perhaps something like a Which? Best Buy Award.
  • Customer Service – It’s not just the boiler itself you want to review, it’s the company’s customer service. How do they treat their customers and how easy is it to contact them if you need to?
  • Price Range – Does the manufacturer have a range of boilers, including one that suits your price point?
  • Efficiency – What are the efficiency ratings for the boiler in comparison to other makes and models?

What are the top 10 best boiler brands?

Based on our expert knowledge of boilers and the factors outlined above, our list of the top 10 best boilers would be as follows.

#1 – Worcester Bosch

Chances are this is one of, if not the boiler brand you’ve heard of. And for good reason! For 10 years running they’ve been awarded a Which? Best Buy award for some of their Combi boilers. This could well be the reason it’s one of the UK’s most trusted and best-selling brands.

They also have their own aptly named Worcester Guarantee – A warranty committed to customer aftercare for a period of up to 10 years.

For more information on the range of boilers from Worcester Bosch and which one could be good for your home requirements, give us a call.

#2 – Viessmenn

Having already dominated the European market, this German engineered boiler manufacturer is surging in popularity here in the UK.

With a solid 5 star reputation for reliability and quality, 7 of the Viessmann models come with Which? Best Buy awards.

One thing that does stand them apart from some other manufacturers is the use of stainless steel heat exchangers as standard. Other brands largely use aluminium, which gives Viessmenn the edge on longevity as it copes better with sludge and stands up better against corrosion. 2 of the main causes of boiler breakdowns!

If boiler quality is the top of your list then this could be the boiler brand for you. Give us a call to discuss which of their models could be the perfect choice for your home.

#3 – Alpha

This brand of boiler has a bit of a reputation for being the ‘budget option’ – Which does sell it a bit short. Alpha has been steadily growing in popularity, with lots of UK homeowners choosing one of their combi boilers for their home.

They are also one of the few who (like premium brand Viessmenn) use a stainless steel heat exchanger. Not your standard budget choice!

If you’re looking for a boiler with reliability, affordability and moderate warranty (up to 7 years) then this could be the brand for you. Give us a call if you’d like to discuss options.

#4 – Ideal

It’s pretty much what it says on the tin with this one. They might not be the best, but they’re certainly not bad either – They’re sort of that ideal middle option.

Historically, they’re a long-standing choice within the UK boiler market and have a bit of a reputation for being excellent.

They might not have any Which? Best Buys but they do have rather a comprehensive range of boilers – From the standard budget-friendly option, to the more singing-and-dancing top of the range options. Call us to chat through which one could work for your home.

#5 – Vaillant

This would probably be up there if we put you on the spot and asked you to name the top UK boiler brands.

They have a long history of creating premium quality boilers which have earned them a Which? Best Buy award.

Vaillant boilers are made here in the UK to an excellent standard of engineering – Backed up with a 10 year warranty. If you think a Vaillant boiler is the one for you then give our friendly team a call so we can see which model would be right for you.

#6 – Baxi

Another brand from the UK and one with solid engineering to last. They have a range of boilers whether you are looking for combi, regular or system.

Although not seen as a premier option, they’re known for their excellent, award-winning customer service and selection of products.

If value for money is high up on your list, then a Baxi could be the boiler for you. Have a chat to our team to book an appointment.

#7 – Glow-Worm

This one is another budget option and while they’ve been around for a while, they have recently been ‘fostered’ by Vaillant and are manufactured in their UK based factory.

Whilst offering combi, regular and system options, they also utilise up-to-date technology to combat fuel wastage. This means they could be an efficient choice that help reduce your carbon footprint.

If energy efficiency is at the top of your list along with an affordable price, then Glow-Worm could be just what you’ve been searching for.

#8 – Potterton

This one isn’t very well known at all, so we won’t judge if you’ve never heard of them! Whilst starting out at the premium side of condensing boilers, they now provide a range of budget friendly combi boilers.

Unfortunately, whilst they might be friendly on your pocket, they don’t have a great warranty (2 years). They do however offer some technically great boilers. It all depends on how you weigh up the options.

#9 – Intergas

If you’re looking for ‘the latest thing’ then Intergas could be the boiler brand for you. They are relatively new to the UK market, offering attractive, contemporary designs and modern LED displays.

If you like a gadget, then you’ll probably love the remote control system – Both user friendly and convenient.

Warranty varies between 3 and 7 years depending on which combi model you choose.

#10 – Vokera

It might be on the tenth spot, but it is still worthy of a place in the top 10 boiler brands list. You homeowners will like the price, and us engineers will be grateful for their simplicity.

In short, they offer decent boilers for a budget-friendly price, with a warranty of between 3 and 7 years depending on chosen model.

It’s no thrills, but could be just what you’re looking for when it comes to a new boiler.
