Havant Small Business Awards 2016

We’re very proud to have been shortlisted as finalists in two categories of the Havant Small Business Awards 2016. Local MP Alan Mak started this local awards ceremony earlier this year. The two categories we have been nominated in are very differing areas. We believe this demonstrates how the business contributes to the local area, promoting local jobs and supporting the less well off where possible.

Apprentice Of The Year

One nomination is Apprentice Of The Year for our latest apprentice heating installation engineer Michael Rees. Michael has really embraced his apprenticeship having started as an extra pair of hands and trainee cavity wall installer a few years ago. He has now started his training and is progressing well having fitted a few boilers under the watchful eye of one of our senior engineers who has taken him under his wing.  We’re all very proud of his progress – it won’t be long till he’s fitting a new boiler for you!

As a business we have supported apprenticeships a great deal, having brought on six apprentices in the last five years. This gives local young people a great start on the way to a rewarding career in our industry.

Business Personality Of The Year

Our second nomination is for Business Personality Of The Year, which Gary picked up for his charity work. As you will have seen from previous news items, Aura Heating have made contributions to keep local day centres going. In addition, Gary is a very proactive member of the Portsmouth Round Table. Last year he also ran the Great South Run to raise money for a local charity and donated football kits to his sons youth team.

Gary has always ensured we take part in local and national schemes to help people obtain new boiler funding. We have been very active members of the Cosy Havant and Cosy East Hants schemes in the last year which saw hundreds of local people get 25% of the cost of their job and the most in need even get a free boiler!  We’ve also continued working on the national Energy Company Obligation scheme. This scheme is designed to help people on certain benefits get cheaper boilers.

What’s Next?

An independent panel of judges will now take over the decision making from the public. Gary, Michael and guests will be attending the Havant Small Business Awards 2016 ceremony. It’s taking place on Friday 29th April 2016 at South Downs College, wish us luck!
